The start to the 2015 Season for the Atlanta Rhinos is off to an early start with 3 new game officials getting their Level 1 USA Rugby League Game Official Certification.
USA Rugby League director for Game Officials, Vince Lawson, and director for the Southeast Conference, John Freeman, traveled to Atlanta to deliver the course to three local candidates.
Having three local certified officials in the Atlanta area will mean travel commitments for the current officials is greatly reduced, and finding a full crew for all Rhinos home games will be a lot easier.
“Last year we had to have guys travel from Florida, some by booking last minute airfare,” said an SERL official. “Having local people in place will greatly reduce the costs, and that means more resources and time can be dedicated to improving officiating over all.”
Both the Atlanta Rhinos and the Southeastern Conference are excited to be taking another step towards expanding Rugby League in one of the most important, yet often overlooked, parts of the game. “Having more officials means that we can start looking at more opportunities in current areas, as well as support new areas as the come on line.”
