The Kill Cliff Atlanta Rhinos traveled to Florida this weekend to face the Jacksonville Axemen, in a place where the visiting team has not won a regular season game since 2008, and the Axemen faithful filled the stands to see the undefeated Rhinos run out onto the field.
The Rhinos took some time to find their footing in the high humidity and the Axemen capitalized taking a 20 – 6 lead into the halftime break, with only Terrance Williams being able to cross the line and Joe Cowley adding the extras.
The men from Atlanta charged onto the field to start the second half and it didn’t take long for them to get the score moving again. Terrance Williams added a second, David Winiarczyk crossed twice and Joe Cusamano got the nod from the referee for scores, and Joe Cowley added 3 from 4, that took the Rhinos into the lead with less than 20 minutes to go. The Axemen seemed to respond to the large crowd who could feel their 7 years record slipping away, and they pushed their play to the edge of the field a number of times, and it finally paid dividends and they grabbed enough points late in the game to end the game over the Rhinos 38 to 28.
The Rhinos now have the July 4 weekend off, before heading South again to Deland, FL. where they will face the Central Florida Warriors who are also regrouping after falling to the Tampa Mayhem 40 – 28. Their loss still has the Rhinos sitting at the top of the South Division conference with a 3 – 1 record.
